Acceptable Use and Safety

Last updated: 16 October 2026

Effective: 18 October 2026

1. Adults only

Everyone on TutorBoost, tutor or student, must be 18 or older and use their own account. Lessons for anyone under 18 are not allowed, even with a parent’s permission. A tutor must not teach, message or arrange to meet anyone they know or suspect to be under 18 through TutorBoost, and must report it to us. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it.

2. Safeguarding

  • Keep lessons professional. No sexual content, sexual advances or requests for intimate images, ever.
  • Do not ask a student or tutor for passwords, bank logins, identity documents or money beyond the agreed lesson price.
  • Teach online lessons in the TutorBoost lesson room. If you meet in person after arranging it yourselves, TutorBoost does not supervise, check or insure that meeting; meet in a public place first and tell someone where you are.
  • Do not record a lesson without the clear agreement of the other person. TutorBoost does not record lessons.
  • If someone is in immediate danger, contact the local emergency services first, then tell us.

3. Honesty

  • Profiles, qualifications, experience, reviews and ads must be true.
  • No impersonation, fake accounts, or reviews of yourself or a competitor.
  • No promise of guaranteed exam results, grades, visas or jobs.

4. Payments outside TutorBoost

You may share contact details and arrange lessons and payment directly with each other. If you do:

  • that lesson is outside TutorBoost. We do not hold the money, give refunds, record attendance or decide disputes for it;
  • never ask for, or make, a second payment for a lesson already booked and paid through TutorBoost;
  • never describe a direct payment as protected, held or guaranteed by TutorBoost;
  • never use a TutorBoost booking to collect money for something else.

5. Conduct and content that is not allowed

  • Harassment, threats, hate, bullying, or discrimination on the basis of a protected characteristic.
  • Scams, phishing, fraud, money-laundering, or requests to move money for someone else.
  • Illegal content, or content that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or privacy.
  • Spam, unsolicited advertising, or collecting other users’ details for any purpose other than lessons.
  • Interfering with the site, scraping it, or using automated tools without our written permission.
  • Helping students cheat on assessed work or exams they are not allowed help with.

6. How we enforce this

Messages are screened automatically before delivery, and a message that looks like a scam, harassment, a threat or sexual content may be refused or held for a person to review. You are told when a message is refused and why. Depending on how serious a breach is, we may remove content, hide a profile, pause bookings, or suspend or close an account. We act in proportion to the breach, consider the circumstances, and tell the person concerned what we did, why, which rule or law it was based on, whether automated tools were used, and how to ask for a review, unless doing so would break the law or put someone at risk. We may suspend accounts that repeatedly post clearly illegal content, and we may stop processing reports from someone who repeatedly sends clearly unfounded ones.

7. Reporting a problem

  • Report a profile with the Report link on it (signed in), or report a message in the conversation.
  • Contest a lesson outcome from your lessons page.
  • Anyone, with or without an account, can report content they believe is illegal by emailing support@tutorboost.org. Please include the link to the content, why you believe it is illegal, your name and email (unless you are reporting child sexual abuse material), and a statement that you believe the report is accurate and complete. See Regulatory Information.

We confirm receipt of reports sent by email, review them promptly and carefully, and tell you what we decided.
