How does TutorBoost work?

TutorBoost is a tutoring marketplace. Students search for a tutor, book and pay through the platform; you teach the lesson and we release your share afterwards. You set your own rates and hours. Our standard commission is 10%; an optional trial lesson uses a 50/50 split, shown before you publish it.

What do I need to get started?

Your name, email, the subject you teach, a photo, a short bio, your hourly rate and your availability. That is enough to submit a tutor application. Certifications, spoken languages and a video introduction are optional and make the page stronger.

How long does setup take?

Most tutors finish the application in about 10 minutes. We review profiles before dashboard access and public booking open, so students only see pages that have passed a basic credibility check.

Does it cost anything to start?

No. There is no card required to apply, no tutor subscription and no listing fee. Standard lessons carry 10% commission; an optional trial lesson uses the separately disclosed trial split.

What do I get on my page?

Your photo, bio, subject, experience, rates, languages and anything else you fill in, plus a booking link and a contact form. It has its own address at tutorboost.org, so you can put it in your Instagram bio, your email signature, or a message to a student who asks what you charge.

Can I edit my page after I publish it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. After approval, your details, photo, bio, rates and availability can all be changed from your dashboard. Substantial changes may be reviewed again if they affect trust, safety or advertising.

What makes a good tutor page?

A clear, friendly photo. A bio that says who you help and what changes for them, not just how long you have been teaching. Real rates. The languages you speak. And your availability filled in, so the booking link has times to offer. Specific beats impressive: "IELTS speaking practice for nurses" gets more enquiries than "experienced English teacher".

Should I add a video introduction?

If you can, yes. Thirty to sixty seconds of you talking the way you talk in a lesson tells a student more than any paragraph, and it is the fastest way to feel like a real person rather than a listing.

Can a student book from any country?

Accepted Answer

Students in most countries can pay with an eligible card or supported wallet through Stripe Checkout. TutorBoost charges in US dollars. Visa and Mastercard have global cardholder coverage; other card brands and wallets vary by country. Every payment remains subject to the card issuer, Stripe, card-network rules, local law and sanctions, so no individual card is guaranteed to be accepted. Stripe currently prohibits transactions involving Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as sanctioned or otherwise restricted people.

How does booking work?

You set your availability, your time zone, how much notice you need and how far ahead people can book. Your page offers only the times that fit those rules. When a student picks one, the slot is held, you both get an email, and the lesson appears in your schedule. Two students can never end up in the same slot.

Can I move booking or messages outside TutorBoost?

Keep booking, payment and lesson messages on TutorBoost. That preserves the attendance and conversation record used for safety, support and payment decisions.

What if I need to stop taking bookings for a while?

Turn booking off, or clear your availability, from your schedule settings. Your page stays up; it just stops offering times.

How do I get paid for a lesson?

The student pays before the lesson and TutorBoost holds the lesson price until settlement. After a standard lesson, 10% commission is deducted and the remainder is credited to your balance. Trial lessons use the separate 50/50 split disclosed when you enable them.

Why does TutorBoost hold the money?

So that neither side has to trust the other first. The student knows they are not paying for a lesson that might not happen, and you know the money is already there before you teach. If a lesson does not take place, nothing is released.

How much does TutorBoost take?

The standard commission is 10% of the lesson price. Optional trial lessons use a 50/50 split instead. Your earnings view shows the applicable amounts before payout.

When can I withdraw?

Once a lesson is eligible and settled, its share moves to your available balance. Your earnings page separates held, available and paid amounts. Payout methods and any provider fee are shown before you submit a request.

Whose students are they?

Yours. Every enquiry and booking arrives with the student's name and email and goes straight to you. If you stop using TutorBoost tomorrow you keep the list and the relationships. There is nothing to be locked out of.

How do students reach me?

Through the contact form, booking flow and TutorBoost messaging. Keeping lesson conversations on the platform helps us investigate safety reports and support requests.

What do I see about my students?

Your enquiries, your upcoming and past bookings, which students are still active, and an estimate of the monthly income they represent.

What does TutorBoost charge?

There is no tutor subscription or listing fee. Standard lessons carry 10% commission; optional trial lessons use the disclosed 50/50 split. Any payout-provider fee is shown before a payout request.

What does the student pay?

The lesson price plus a $0.99 booking fee on ordinary card bookings. The fee is shown separately before payment and is waived for eligible platform credit, lesson-pack and Plus bookings.

What if a lesson goes wrong?

Accepted Answer

Clear classroom attendance can settle a lesson automatically. Missing, conflicting or contested evidence is reviewed by support. A qualifying cancellation returns the refundable lesson price to the original payment method or restores a pack lesson; some failed-lesson outcomes use platform credit. The $0.99 booking fee is normally non-refundable. Full details are in our Terms of Service.

I can't log into my account

Use the "Forgot password" link on the sign-in page to reset it. If that does not get you back in, email support@tutorboost.org and we will sort it out by hand.

My profile photo won't upload

Accepted Answer

Photos need to be JPG, PNG or WebP and under 5MB, and square images sit best in the layout. If it still refuses, try another browser or clear your cache.

Question 25

How do I change my email address?

Accepted Answer

In the profile section of your dashboard. You will need to verify the new address before the change takes effect.
