Question 1

How does TutorBoost work?

Accepted Answer

Find a tutor by subject, online or in person, and message them for free. You agree lessons and pay your tutor directly.

Question 2

Who are the tutors?

Accepted Answer

Independent tutors who created a profile themselves. A person reviews every profile before it appears in the directory. Reviews on a profile only come from students who completed a lesson with that tutor.

Question 3

Is TutorBoost for children?

Accepted Answer

No. Accounts are for adults aged 18 and over. Parents looking for a tutor for a child should search and message from their own adult account.

Question 4

How are tutors ordered in search?

Accepted Answer

By how well a profile matches your search and how complete it is. Nobody can pay to rank higher. See How tutors are ordered for the detail.

Question 5

Is it free to contact a tutor?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Messaging tutors and reading their replies is free.

Question 6

Do tutors see my email address?

Accepted Answer

No. Messages go through TutorBoost and your email is not shown to the tutor. You can choose to share contact details in a conversation once you are comfortable.

Question 7

How quickly will a tutor reply?

Accepted Answer

Tutors are emailed the moment you write, but they are independent and reply on their own schedule. TutorBoost cannot promise a reply or a response time.

Question 8

How do I report a message?

Accepted Answer

Every conversation has a report button. Use it for anything that feels like fraud, harassment or pressure to pay before you have agreed terms. A person reviews every report.

Question 9

How do I pay for lessons?

Accepted Answer

To your tutor, in the way you agree together. TutorBoost does not take, hold or protect lesson payments, so agree the price, cancellation terms and payment method before your first lesson.

Question 10

What if a lesson goes wrong?

Accepted Answer

Use the cancellation terms you agreed with the tutor and your payment provider's support. TutorBoost cannot refund money it did not collect. Report fraud or abuse from the conversation.

Question 11

I booked through TutorBoost before September 2026. What happens?

Accepted Answer

Bookings paid through TutorBoost before September 5, 2026 keep their original settlement, refund and dispute terms, and their booking tools still work.

Question 12

What does it cost to list?

Accepted Answer

Nothing. Your profile, your listing and your messages are free. TutorBoost takes no cut of your lesson fees.

Question 13

What do I need to apply?

Accepted Answer

A photo, the subject you teach, your hourly rate, a short bio and a link to a short introduction video, plus something that backs up your teaching: a credential or résumé, or a link to a profile we can check. A person reviews it and approves you. There is no payout account or ID check to set up.

Question 14

How long does review take?

Accepted Answer

A person reviews every profile and tells you if anything needs changing. You can save your progress and come back later. Once approved, your profile is live and you can share its link.

Question 15

Do I pay to read or answer messages?

Accepted Answer

No. Tutors never pay to receive or reply to enquiries.

Question 16

Can I pay to appear higher in search?

Accepted Answer

No. Every listing is free, and nobody can pay to rank higher today. If paid placement is ever offered it will be optional and labelled as paid wherever it appears.

Question 17

Will I get students?

Accepted Answer

We cannot promise enquiries. Students find you by searching, and a complete profile with a clear photo, accurate rates and a short video helps them choose. Students who saved a matching search are emailed when you are approved.

Question 18

How do I get paid?

Accepted Answer

By your students, using whatever you already use. Any fees charged by your payment provider are separate. If you are owed a balance from a booking paid through TutorBoost before September 5, 2026, email support@tutorboost.org and it is paid out to you.

Question 19

Can I edit my profile after it is published?

Accepted Answer

Yes, from your dashboard. Substantial changes may be reviewed again.

Question 20

I can't log into my account

Accepted Answer

Use the "Forgot password" link on the sign-in page to reset it. If that does not get you back in, email support@tutorboost.org and we will sort it out by hand.

Question 21

My profile photo won't upload

Accepted Answer

Photos need to be JPG, PNG or WebP and under 5MB, and square images sit best in the layout. If it still refuses, try another browser or clear your cache.

Question 22

How do I change my email address?

Accepted Answer

In your account settings. You will need to verify the new address before the change takes effect.
